RGGC Wins National Award For Historic Renovation of Myrtle Banks School

New Orleans, LA – (March 26, 2015) – Ryan Gootee General Contractors, LLC, (RGGC) a local commercial contractor, won an Alliant Build America Award, presented by the AGC of America at their 96th annual convention in San Juan, PR, on Thursday, March 21, 2015. The award was presented to RGGC for the Myrtle Banks Redevelopment project and their historic restoration and renovation of the building on Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. RGGC was the only Louisiana contractor among the 23 winners in a variety of construction and design categories.

The Myrtle Banks Redevelopment was selected as the top project nationally in the “Building Under $10 Million Renovation” category.

“Winning the Alliant Build America award is an affirmation that our team is performing at a very high level,” said Ryan Gootee, President and CEO of Ryan Gootee General Contractors, LLC. “This award is one of the most prestigious honors in the construction industry and we are very privileged to have been selected.”

Because the building was a registered historic building, the project team worked carefully to preserve and recreate many of the interior and exterior components of the original building. To qualify for historic tax credits, the Myrtle Banks Redevelopment adaptive re-use project had to receive approval from both the National Park Service and the State Historic Preservation Office. RGGC worked with architect and design firms, Eskew+Dumez+Ripple and Harmon Engineering, LLC.

Mike Grote, director of building programs with property owners Alembic Community Development, said the restoration and conversion of the Myrtle Banks school has “exceeded our wildest dreams of what we thought we’d have at the end of this project. It’s a better, more beautiful project in every way and that’s because of the project team.”

The Alliant Build America Awards have been given in recognition of excellence in the construction industry for the past 30 years. These highly coveted awards are given to projects selected by a panel of contractors and are judged in areas such as state-of-the-art advancement; project management; innovation; contribution to community; difficulty; and environmental sensitivity. Categories include building under $10 million; building $11 million to $199 million; building over $200 million; construction management; civil construction; design-build; environmental enhancement; federal and heavy construction; highway and transportation; international projects and utility infrastructure.
