CVS Pharmacy Historic Restoration of the Gus Mayer Building

The project included the structural shoring and stabilization of a 4 story reinforced concrete structure severely damaged by fire during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Concrete columns were chipped down to sound concrete and reinforced with a 5” encasement of 8,ooo psi reinforced concrete. The damaged 2nd floor slab was removed and repoured. Windows and storefront systems were removed and replaced with missile impact resistant glazing. The limestone façade was cleaned, pointed and patched and a new roof system was installed. A custom elevator was retrofitted in a new shaft location. Once the structural rehabilitation was complete, a CVS Pharmacy was built out on the first floor.
