Metairie Park Country Day School Early Childhood Center

Metairie Park Country Day School underwent an upgrade that relocated, demolished and rebuilt a pair of old cottage buildings that houses the school’s early childhood programs. The more than 80-year-old buildings were replaced with a 10,000-square-foot complex of buildings that are designed to mimic the architecture of other buildings on campus. The buildings, known as Edisen House, were constructed in the 1920s and donated to the school. The buildings were moved to the northwest corner of campus in 1987 and 1999 respectively and were well maintained over the years, but became outdated and no longer suitable for the school’s growing early childhood development program. The new buildings give the program more space to accommodate an additional 20 students. The first phase of the project involved moving the larger of the two buildings into a nearby parking lot to allow for construction to begin. The school kept the existing buildings intact during construction so it could continue the early childhood program without interruption. Once the building was moved, construction began on the replacement buildings. The two existing buildings were demolished when construction was complete. The new buildings feature nine classrooms, administration space and covered outdoor play areas connected by breezeways and mimics the look of other buildings on campus.
